Local Ukrainian dance troupe celebreates its 40th anniversary.

October 28, 2010: SEE Magazine: The Edmonton region is home to more Ukrainian dancers per capita than anywhere else on the planet, including Ukraine. Maybe it owes to the city’s rich tradition of celebrating cultural diversity or the deep roots Ukrainians have in the region, which the world’s largest pysanka and the Ukrainian Cultural Village attest to. And admittedly, just maybe, these are the prevailing stereotypes we hold of Edmonton’s Ukrainian community: they dance, dress happy, smile a lot and paint eggs. Over four decades, Cheremosh has moved hundreds of Canadian Ukrainian dancers, quenched their thirst to better understand their heritage, nurtured a connection with their roots and steeped them in their culture's stories and bright colours, carving out unforgettable life experiences and leaving a lasting impression with audiences everywhere it has flowed.
